Siemens earlier this week announced its Chinese subsidiary; Siemens Ltd China has received an order from Chinese steelmaker Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. to supply automation and drive equipment for three new BOF (basic oxygen furnace) converters in its Handan Steel Works.
The deal is valued at “several million euros” and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Siemens automation system will be based on Simatic S7-400 PLCs – the data network and the operator control and visualization system and it covers the converters as well as material feed, charging, steam cooling and dedusting facilities.
Siemens is no stranger to Handan as the two companies have worked together on several automation deals in the past. In 2009, Handan procured a rod outlet for the wire rod mill from Siemens. Earlier in March this year, it chose another Siemens subsidiary – Siemens VAI Metal Technologies as its vendor for mechanical equipment for bar mill, mill train and wire rod mill.
Siemens is already a well-established player in automation segment in China dn this deal will further boost its growth prospects in the world’s fastest growing economy.
Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd is a subsidiary of Hebei Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd, one of China’s leading steel producers
