The verdict is out – Duke Energy Center, Charlotte, N.C., and the Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, Iowa have been crowned as the winners of Siemens Industry’s inaugural Smartest Buildings in America Challenge. The runners-up include Cold Climate Housing Research Center, Fairbanks, Alaska, and the Rasmussen Building at Grand View University, Des Moines, Iowa.
Siemens is a world leader in “Building Automation” systems with its APOGEE and TALON solutions. The objective of this challenge was to demonstrate innovative use of Siemens building solutions to increase efficiency and lower costs. The Duke Energy Center building has with 48 stories covering 1.5 million square feet and it uses the Siemens APOGEE Building Automation System, daylight harvesting blinds and lighting controls, facility operators to reduce energy consumption by 22% and increase occupant productivity through the integration of 16 separate building systems.
The Iowa Central Community College Biotechnology and Health Science building uses the Siemens TALON AX system to integrate & operate mechanical systems and control the corridor and outside lighting.
The winners will receive $25,000 in products and services from Siemens’ Building Technologies Division, or a $25,000 contribution to qualified charities of their choice.
