August 1st marked the end of Unions at Rockwell Automation, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. This ends a 75 year history of the Local 1111 Union based out of Milwaukee.
What will happen to the Union and its workers?
The roughly 130 UE members who were still on the job – electricians, maintenance crews, cafeteria staff – have been replaced by contract workers earning much less in wages and benefits than their predecessors. Most of the newly terminated are company veterans who will receive one-third pay and full benefits until they’re eligible to retire in the next year or two.
The Local 1111 was actually started by old Rockwell (formerly Allen Bradley) employees back in 1937. Amidst the company sponsored basketball teams, choirs and social activities, the founders of the Local 1111 were still very concerned that Allen Bradley still wasn’t treating them good enough.
