No More Unions at Rockwell Automation

The union that has represented hourly workers at Rockwell Automation Inc. since 1937 is about to end. Rockwell announced earlier this year that it is outsourcing its cafeteria and model shop operations which affects about 140 employees.

The outsourcing is scheduled to take effect on August 1st, 2010.

As Business Journal puts it:

For decades, the union mainly represented hourly workers at Rockwell’s factory at 1201 S. Second St. The plant employed about 1,500 production and maintenance workers as recently as 10 years ago and as many as 6,000 workers at one point in the 1970s, according to the union. Over the years, most of the factory work has been moved to low-wage areas, primarily in Latin America and Asia, union officials said. Rockwell also has shifted work to its nonunion plant in Mequon.
