How to Enable Buffering in Historian SE

FactoryTalk Historian provides a buffering option that can save (buffer) plant data if the Interface Node loses its connection to the Historian server. When the connection becomes available all the buffered data will be sent to the Historian server. This is to avoid data loss.

Following are the instructions on how to enable this feature. You can click on the images for a larger preview.

1. Open Pi System Management Tool

2. Verify The PIBufferSubSytemService Trust Exists

3. Open Interface Configuration Utility

Choose your Interface Node.

4. Go to Tools, Buffering

5. Enable Buffering

6. Choose Buffering Server

(click on image for larger preview)

7. On Interface Configuration Utility Choose “Service”

When you do click on “Service” a pop-up will appear recommending to set the PIBufss service to e a dependency of the buffer subsystem service.  So choose Yes.

8. Restart the Interface Service

FactoryTalk Historian Site Edition (SE) provides is an industrial automation software that allows real-time plant data monitoring, archiving, and reporting. This helps locate and correct sources of inefficiencies and process or batch variables. It is also more often than not required by law to keep track of the plant data.
