Emerson Ovation Control Tech to be Installed in Four Chinese Nuclear Reactors

Emerson is continuing to benefit from the relationship with Westinghouse, as four new Chinese nuclear reactors produced and installed by Westinghouse will take advantage of Emerson’s Ovation expert control technology on four reactors.

The contract will net Emerson Process Management $17 million and be installed at Sanmen plant in Zheijang Province and Haiyang plant in Shandong Province. Both installations will take two-plus years, with the first Haiyang unit operational in 2014. There are at least two 1,000 megawatt reactors at both sites, but the major factor is scalability for both sites.

Westinghouse’s interrelationship with Emerson is critical for Emerson’s continued growth because Westinghouse produces about one-half of all operational nuclear power plants, and Ovation control systems operate in half of those, or about one-fourth the world’s total.

This is easily visible in official quotes, as Steve Sonnenberg, Emerson Process Management president notes, “We are pleased to be part of the Sanmen and Haiyang projects. With our agreement to provide technology for automating AP1000 nuclear reactors and the growing market for nuclear power, we look forward to working with Westinghouse on additional installations in the near future.”

The latest contract is for a total of 380 cabinets and controllers, 220 workstations and more than 2,000 I/O modules.
